The Evelyn James Memorial Scholarship is a local scholarship awarded to high school seniors in the Jefferson County, Kentucky region. The Scholarship Award honors the late Evelyn James, the founder of the Thornton Family Scholarship, Inc. It was her desire to inspire the youth in the community to continue to grow spiritually and academically. She has always stressed, “Ones work may be finished someday but One’s education is never finished!”
The Evelyn James Memorial Scholarship Award was established in 2002, the award is funded entirely by local fund raising efforts and donations from the community. The applicant must excel academically and show exceptional leadership potential. Also must make and impact on the community through service to others and a desire to make a difference.
Each year, multiple one-time scholarship awards are awarded to graduating high school seniors of Kentuckiana entering college as a freshman the following fall school year. The awards are presented to the honorees in attendance at the Annual Scholarship Awards Banquet each year. The award selection is based on the following:
